To ICHL Players,
An email went out yesterday regarding the cancellation of the Adult Hockey League contract for the ICHL. For the last three years, the Rink has opted to rent ice to the ICHL Administrator so they could run the adult league that operates out of the rink.
For reasons outlined in this posting, the Rink has decided to bring the Adult Hockey Program In-House. That means all current Adult League Programs, including Hockey 101, will now be operated directly through the Rink itself.
The Rink will continue to operate and grow all the programs. Currently, our Adult Hockey Offerings will include the following:
We apologize for the confusion and have created this FAQ to address questions regarding the change to Adult League for the upcoming season. The FAQ will be expanded as more questions arise.
Why did the Rink choose to bring the Adult Hockey Programs at the Rink In-House?
Please see this posting for a comprehensive answer.
Who will be in charge of the Adult Hockey League?
The RHL (Rink Exchange Hockey League) will be administered through the rink. There will not be one single person in charge of the entire league, but each component will be administered by personnel at the Rink with various expertise. Alex Miller and Justin Kern will be charge of league administration. Ryan Colby will be in charge of Marketing. Toshia Holden will be in charge of accounting.
When will League start?
The Fall League will start on August 17th and last for 8 weeks.
Winter League will begin on October 12 and last for 16 or 17 weeks. There will be a few blackout weekends during the Winter league for the Spokane Adult Tournament, Super Bowl Weekend, and a few youth events during the holidays.
Spring League will begin on March 8th and last for 8 weeks.
What Levels will there be?
There will be three levels: A, B, & C. Registrants will be able to sign up for whatever level they deem fit. Captains at each of the levels will hold a draft and select what they deem will be even teams. The Rink will not be determining eligibility of players any any level. Captains may encourage players to move to other levels. The goal is to create a fun and competitive hockey playing environment that allows friends to play together (or against each other) and to enjoy the comraderie of Adult Hockey.
Will there still be a captains discount?
Yes.
How much will league be?
We haven't set the final prices for league, but even with the new price increase per hour for ice and addition of USA Hockey Membership fees for players, the total per game price for players will remain about the same as last season.
How do I register for League?
We expect to have the new registration system complete the week of July 14th for Fall Registration.
What about stats?
The Rink will be using statistical packages provided by Pointstreak (who administers many pro-leagues). The result will be stats that will accumulate from year to year (follow the player) as well as stats provided real-time during games. Stats will no longer have a delay before being posted to the website.
It's beer league. What about sponsors?
The Rink will not be altering agreements with sponsors. As teams have had sponsors who provide beer in return for logos on Jerseys, etc., we will continue to assist teams in providing and receiving sponsorship as currently developed. We understand that no sponsorship dollars went to the ICHL and all monies (either in-kind or direct) went to teams. We will not be altering that relationship in any manner. Ryan Colby will look to expand sponsorship opportunities for teams without sponsorship and look for league wide opportunities as well. The rink will develop jersey packages at competitive pricing.
What about Conflict Resolution?
The Rink will be following the established process and procedure as established by USA Hockey. The league will use that Rule Book and distribute the Rule Book to players, referees, captains, and administrators. Referees will be certified and trained. Penalties will be called per the rules established. Rules violations resulting in suspensions will be administered by referees or by the Captains of each level in the case of Supplemental Discipline (i.e. Match Penalties). The final appeals board will consist of a three person body to be determined at a later date.
For most all issues, the individual leagues and their captains will be the disciplinary body.
What happens to Adult Intro to Hockey (Hockey 101)?
Adult Intro to Hockey (Hockey 101) will still take place on Saturday at 8:45 AM. Classes resume on August 21st for an 8 week session. There will still be drop-in options for students and there will be still be loaner gear available for both Intro to Hockey and New Novice Players in the league.
What about passes that I purchased for Hockey 101 that I haven't used?
The rink will honor these passes.
