How long have you been playing hockey?
- I grew up in Ottawa, Canada and played hockey as a child at my local park (outside, cold, snow, etc.) - so, that translates to having played recreational hockey for roughly 65 years on and off (I'm now 71). In other words, a life-long passion and sports activity. I never played in college or anything really serious but have always gotten a big thrill playing so have kept at it as I have aged and done other things with my life. I get a kick out of playing with younger players (especially winning most of the face offs I take!) and believe that my general conditioning, helped by my running and other activities, keeps me in good shape and able to have fun and contribute to any team I play on in the RHL.
How long have you been playing hockey?
- I moved to Eugene in Fall of 2006 from Bay Area, CA, and immediately joined the adult league here in Eugene. The RHL has up graded the offerings in town so I'm happy to keep playing as long as my body and mind allow.
It is much fun and well organized.

What do you do with your time when you're NOT playing hockey?
- I'm semi-retired and teach Chi Running and Chi Walking workshops and classes privately and at the University of Oregon. I also enjoy doing fun races myself. For instance, last Saturday I tried running a very hilly 50 K (31 mile) Trail Run in the McDonald forest in Corvallis - a bit much, but nice that I would even consider entering such a challenging event. My background professionally was as a Psychologist (including sports Psychology) mostly in a university in the Bay Area. I get lots of joy from being a granddad for two young boys and running and playing with my life partner, Kathy.
What do you love MOST about hockey and the RHL?
- Hockey is thrilling - to move with speed, flow, excitement even if we are actually moving pretty slowly compared to higher level hockey players - it's a unique and terrific feeling and anyone who learns to skate and enjoys developing a skill with their body, can get lots of enjoyment from it. I also enjoy being part of a team and get a kick out of making a good pass, stopping an opponent's effort, and handling the unpredictable elements of sports. The RHL gives me the opportunity to experience all of these things and to be a part of something special that just doesn't come with most "fitness activities" of adults who like to be physically active and stay healthy. I'm an advocate of "life long fitness" and playing in the RHL is one way I do that.
If you're considering trying hockey, there's no better place than the RHL. Give it a try - I'm sure you'll enjoy it and get varied and immense value from your experience.
