How long have you been playing hockey?
- About 5 years now
How exactly did you get your start playing hockey?
- I grew up in Massachusetts and learned to ice skate when I was a kid. We had a rink nearby and we also skated on the frozen cranberry bogs down the street from my house. The cranberry bogs were flooded with water in the winter and made perfect skating rinks for all the neighborhood kids when they froze. Sometimes we'd pass a puck around, but I didn't play organized hockey until I was an adult.
I was living in Montana a few years ago and saw a poster recruiting new players for an adult women's hockey team. I've always liked watching hockey (go Bruins!) and learning to play sounded like fun. It took a few weeks to remember how to skate and learn some basic hockey skills, but I loved playing almost immediately!

How did you start playing hockey at The Rink Exchange?
- I've been playing hockey at the Rink Exchange for a year and a half. My husband and I moved to Eugene in 2013 and the ice rink was a major selling point in our decision to live here! I gave birth to our daughter shortly after we arrived in Eugene and two months later I got back on the ice to play my first RHL game. I was nervous about joining a new league and playing with new people, especially since I was just starting to get back in shape after having a baby and it was my first time playing coed hockey. Once I started playing, the nervousness went away pretty quickly - everyone was really welcoming and it was so much fun to be playing hockey again. I'm so happy I decided to sign up for the league, it's one of the best things I've done here in Eugene!
What do you do with your time when you're NOT playing hockey?
- In my free time I like spending time with my husband & daughter, skiing, hiking, gardening, sewing, and rooting for Boston sports teams. I left my job in I.T. to stay home and take care of our daughter - I hope that seeing me play hockey will set a positive example for her of how to stay active and make time for the hobbies you love doing. I can't wait until she's old enough to get her on the ice!
What is your favorite thing about the RHL/The Rink Exchange as a whole?
- I had just moved to Eugene when I started playing here, so joining the league was a great way to meet people. Being new to town and a new parent made it hard to get out of the house and socialize - it was really nice to have a weekly time where I could have fun playing hockey and hang out with awesome people! I've been really impressed by the hockey community here in Eugene, everyone is so supportive and I've made some great friends!
