Our Story
The rink first opened on December 22, 1989 as Lane County Ice Arena. For two decades it was a county-run facility, until 2009, when Lane County decided to shut it down. That same year, Hockey Oregon (The Rink Exchange) stepped in with a management and partnership agreement with the county. Today the rink runs as a public-private partnership between Lane County and Hockey Oregon, and the ice stays open for Eugene.
In 2024 we rebuilt the ice from the ground up. The old slab, refrigeration lines and permafrost came out, and a modern indirect system went in, safer and more reliable for decades to come. We added a second sheet while we were at it.
Why "Exchange"? Our pro shop was named after a military base exchange, to go with the Generals. The name stuck.

Rebuilt Together
When the rink's original ice plant gave out in October 2023, Eugene didn't let the ice go dark. The Rink Exchange teamed up with Lane County, which contributed $60,000, and with Frozen Ice Sports, the local 501(c)(3) formed to raise money for a new chiller and cooling system. The Eugene Figure Skating Club (EFSC), LAHA and other rink families rallied their members, and together the community raised over $500,000 for the rebuild. By fall 2024, the ice was back.
We're not just a rink in the community. We're part of it, and we're here because of it.
